Hi, my name is Dan.
I live near Beckley, in the mountains, in the state of West Virginia.
I was into saltwater tanks some 40 years ago when the saltwater hobby was in it's early years.
I had a 75 gallon and a 50 gallon back then, with metal halides, and fluorescents.
and a simple sump/whirligig sub-filter combo.
I had a couple of hammer and torch corals, and a few fish, shrimp, snail, crabs, etc.
Which was about all One could really find, and afford back then.
So, I'm basically starting all over again, so much has changed since then !!
About a year ago, I started over again with my first tank which is a 3 gallon Pico "seed tank" which I used to start growing a bunch of tiny soft coral frags until big enough for a second tank, which is a 10 gallon Pico tank. They are growing like crazy now! About 20 types in all. 8 different zoas, 6 kinds of mushroom, pulsing Xenias, Kenyas, candy coral, pagoda coral, brain coral, etc.
Planning my next setup which will be a 29 gallon nano reef, (unless something bigger comes along free/or real cheap!) over the next few months.
I hope there are other reefers in the area !?!
Feel free to contact me! Always glad to chat!

We look forward to a "Build thread" in the near future.

Welcome from another old timer, lol. 40 years ago I wasn't doing saltwater, but I was just getting a drivers license and getting ready to set sail in a 62' impala SS I had just purchased from a kid at school. Man where does the time go!!!

Welcome Dan to R2R and back to the hobby. Be it today, or 40 years ago, it's still about keeping water in a box. I just imagine things are a little easier today! Definitely share some pictures when you get the opportunity.

Welcome to R2R;)

Welcome to R2R! Things have changed a lot but the basics are still the same.

Thank you all!
I'm so glad to be here!
I have heart, and back problems so, I may be slow to respond at times.
But, I still get highlights in my email everyday!
I have a 10 gallon pico tank up and running perfectly at month 5 with a tank full of softies> zoas, palys, zenias, althes, etc. And a tiny, few Lps. (candy cane, orange Favia, and 3 tiny green cup pogodas )

I'm considering setting up a larger tank in the next few months, since I just scored an old working Kent Marine Nautilus TE skimmer for $10.00. I also found an old 40 gallon sump tank 1 & 1/2 hours away from me that's water worthy for $20.00, and ready to be converted into service. But, finding a wrought iron stand for it in my neck of the woods will be next to impossible for me.

Love that Impala supersport, gorgeous! I bought my dad's '62 from him, all white with blue interior, white sidewalls, cherry condition, many years ago. What a fabulous set of wheels.
