Older female ocelaris

Better to add clownfish in as pairs. If only one is already established In the tank they tend to be pretty territorial. If you’re considering finding it some fellow clownfish I would add in a pair of whatever species of clown it is. Or you can try adding in another ocelaris larger in size. Considering she’s been in there for 5 years I’m guessing it would be pretty territorial. And would advise against adding any other clowns unless trying one of the steps above.

My female has been alone 5 years. Do you think she would accept a male?
I will share my experience where my female snowflake clown had been alone for a few months only.

My first male ocellaris clownfish was paired with her but disappeared one day in my tank not sure if caught in powerhead or what - dead (but never found body).

When I reintroduced a baby male i left in acclimation box near her and her bubble tip anemone home.

After 2 weeks i released him from his acclimation box near the anemone, and she literally went after him so violently and tried to drag him to the anemone through his bottom fin (it was crazy).
Me and my friend even joked about it after the episode

I intervened so she didn't kill him and he then hosted the other corner of my tank (180 gallon).
Every once in a while she kind of looks like she tries to guide him to the anemone in a nice way but the poor fella must have been traumatized . So they are ok now, no fighting, but don't live together.

So my thoughts are if she has an anemone that might not be so big, it's very possible that first intro to new clown she will attack. Just be prepared to separate and keep an eye.

Keen to hear what others might think, maybe even trying to introduce 2 males to spread the aggression.

I had a female that had been alone for about 7 years. She wouldn't let anything in the tank (a 75 gallon) including me. She would bite hunks out of my fingers when trying to clean the tank. I suspect she would kill anything you put in there.

My female had been alone for almost 3 years. Knowing this can be tricky, what I decided to do was a little odd, but it worked like a charm.

What I did was took her out and put her in a temp home, I had a 10 gallon laying around. Gave it about 2 weeks, and then introduced them both at the same time back to the main tank. Within 8 months they were were laying eggs on the back corner glass of the tank.

Your mileage may vary

Mine did this as well, but after putting the male back into the acclimation box for a while then swapping the male out with the female for a few days, they finally started to establish a relationship through the box. Next time I released them they were good and have now been a pair for a few years

Im thinking the key is making the female a bit more nervous and less concerned about being territorial, but who can say. Clowns are weird
