Thanks all for the advice on getting 2x 40g; 1 bought this week, and the next one coming home with me next Friday. So I'll have the display and sump.

I'd like to do a peninsula build. I'm looking for advice on what sort of overflow and return to set up. Keep in mind that this will be a softie/paly tank. I'm going to use fine sand to keep the xenia from overrunning the tank, and to give the palys a place to grow.

Hello,

Sounds like a good build. Would you be interested in drilling or just going with the hob? Eshopps has a good overflow, and a few others.

I was thinking of drilling the back, and having an overflow box feeding the sump/refugium (planning on using xenia for export).

For the return, I used a SCWD on my old system, and liked it. I was think 2 returns that fork. 1 angled 45deg pointing to the diagonal corner, 1 straight ahead to the back of the tank. One return on each side of the back like that so that there's more random flow. Maybe even a closed loop on the other side to get more wave action.

Or maybe just use Votech10s. Still debating that.

What I'm really wondering about is the standpipes. Durso was the hotness when I was setting up my old tank, but I've heard that there's several different options that work better instead.

I prefer the beananimal overflow system. Quiet, reliable, and easy to tune.
