So reading this article, air freight cost is down. This should, theoretically lead to lower prices right?

I think it will be the same prices but folks flying on American Airlines are going to be packed inside the cabin like cargo. No seats, and if you are lucky you will find an open luggage bin to slide into and fly above the crowd packed in below?

It may lead to higher profits. The cost doesn't usually go down on the retail end. But, a nice thought.

Exactly! Look at food! Grocery stores raised prices cause gas prices were through the roof! Gas went down and food stayed the same. Cause it’s the new norm..

That's why I can by eggs now at less then $2 a dozen and they were almost $5 in January

Most good come via 20 and 40 foot ocean containers not air

for example I can bring containers from any port in China Or South Korea , etc to Long Beach port for less than 2000 dollars It’s very cheap . To put that same cargo in the air will be $ 60000 or more. Most aquarium goods are not going via air It’s 2 totally different animals.

Ya but repairs for semi trucks have never been higher and our govt is too dumb to relax any of the rules that have impacted the freighters wasn’t all that long ago that 40-70 0cesn container ships were stuck waiting to unload at our busyiest ports out west was the norm thru the first 2 years of Covid.

Yep! Look at car ins rates… mine has been going up $50 every 6 months because parts cost more now…

I guess for me, I was looking at the livestock end. Most live stock is air freight I thought?

All livestock is air freight. Prices are trending down but not because of air freight, peak reefing happened and the post free money/COVID slump is here, thus LFS's aren't seeing the traffic they once did.

Well, at least you guys in Vegas are still ok. In Cali, our fearless leaders tried to "protect us poor consumers" and indirectly drove insurance (not just auto) prices way up! Big insurance carriers such as Farmers, All State, and State Farm, already left (like the big exodus in the Bay Area). Now we're dealing with little insurance brokers that offer higher premiums with less coverage & crappy service! I think that both my homeowner & car insurance doubled in the last 2-3 years...brutal!

Not to go too far off topic but I just switched my car insurance and homeowners to USAA from Allstate after my car insurance went up over $100/month and their only excuse was “well everything is going up in price”

They will cut supply to equilibrium with demand and prices will stay the same.

This will be a drop in the bucket for reefers. The hobby is declining, IMO. All hobbies are. Costs going up with free cash and savings going down. I have been through a handful of these over the decades - be smart and buy from the best companies that made it through the last few downturns... If you have any LFS credits, cash them in while you can.

The numbers would disagree...

That is hilarious. I am shorting the reefing hobby in the near future. I might be long on fish bowls, but I don't care about bettas and stuff. Ask any vendor how their numbers look over the last few years...
