One clown died

One of my clowns passed yesterday after a suspected spinal injury. The larger one is still alive, and seems sad- hiding more than usual.
I want to get a new clown, besides making sure he is smaller than her, what else should I be looking for. Will the new one pair with my old one?

What I personally wouldn't do is mix species. As an example a Maroon with a skunk clown.
You need to get clowns with similar temperaments to have a good chance of success
