The smaller of my Clowns has started to host my Frogspawn for about 2 weeks now but the larger one will not go anywhere near it. Is this normal? Will the larger ons start to host it also? The larger one is still hosting the corner of the tank by the powerhead.

My pair was hosting one of my return pipes for a long time. They finally moved into my frogspawn after I moved the coral beneath the pipe. Took three years for the light to turn on in our heads (both mine and my clown's.)

Are your clowns a mated pair yet? If they are you should have either bought them as a mated pair or bought 2 clowns and would have saw about 2 to 3 weeks of what looks like 1 fish charging the other fish and the fish under the challenge seizuring at the aggressor. If they arnt a mated pair though they will not host together intill they are. I have 2 and had to go through the battle with them, all the while watching sand go everywhere, they made me mad sometimes with the sand throwing but it passed and now they never are apart and were hosting in a big toadstool i have but have now changed to hosting a green gonipora.

I bought mine separately five years ago, but they paired up right away. They hosted the pipe together for three years. They started laying eggs only last year, though. I moved them to my new tank this June, and they are still hosting the same old frogspawn.

Generally speaking, if you have two and have had them together for a while, the largest is female. As the big female dies off, the next largest male becomes female, etc. A lot of wrasses are the opposite (become males rather than females).
