I am kind of worried, since it looks like my dad may have put my overflow a little low. The pictures are hard to take, because of the reflection, but does this look ok? Sorry for asking so much lol

You are correct, the pictures are hard to see. If I'm seeing them correctly, the overflow does look a bit low. I typically use half the height of the sawteeth as the projected top water level. If I'm seeing this right, that looks to be an inch or more below the bottom of the frame.

What do i do? I’m kinda freaking out that I’m going to have to buy a new tank, I have an emergency drain if it were to ever get too high and a 1000 GPH return.

Maybe this is better? The template is the highest he could make it, and the holes are the highest they could go because of that

Do you have return pump running?
Is that a removable weir?

I believe on rimmed tanks typically you flip the template over with most overflows.

So yes it is definitely lower than it should be. Quick and easy fix would be to just tape a line roughly at the water line of the overflow and paint the glass black and just roll with it :)

Not the end of the world and a lesson learned for future tanks:)

I don’t have any water in my tank yet, but the one I am going to use is a controllable 1000 GPH pump. I’m not sure what a removable weir is either, lol

I already have the tank plumbed, and I don’t think my dad would go through with that☹️ What if I filled it up to the normal waterline, and since I have an emergency drain as well would it be fine? My return pump is rated kind of high , so would it be fine??

What overflow box did you go with?

It’s a shadow overflow box- just like an eshoppes. He never mentioned a specific brand, which I didn’t think I would need to ask about because it’s basically the exact same as an eshoppes

Looks like a reef synergy overflow, but hard to tell from pics. Either way. When you have return pump running the water will rise up on weir (slotted section on overflow box). If the weir is removable it will drain back down to bottom of removable weir. A lil confusing, but what I’m saying is your water level may be fine, you won’t know until you get return pump running

The wear is where the lid goes on the overflow box, or the teeth of it? The slots where the water goes in?

Yeah, the teeth where the water goes in. Will act as a damm somewhat. With return pump on water will rise up to a point on weir. The more gph from return pump, the higher up the weir water will go.
is weir removable?

How do I check if it is? Not sure completely still what you mean lol it’s been a long day

I mean paint the front and side glass to match the waterline the weir will set. You can not fill the tank up to it's regular waterline because it will overflow the overflow box outside the tank.

The water line has to be set by the weir which will be somewhere around half way up the teeth on the overflow.
As I said, it's not the end of the world and doesn't ruin the tank it just means it will be slightly shallower than you originally thought. By the looks of it it will only be 2-3" inches lower than the regular water line which isn't much lower at all. In fact it makes working on the tank easier, no wet armpits.

You won’t know for sure until you have return pump running. You could set up a temporary situation with return pump in bucket and pipe from overflow going into said bucket.
If you look across tank from front to back, lining up the bottom of rim on front with bottom of rim on back. Where is the weir ? Is it below that line?

I’m screwed lol. I’m just going to buy a new tank.

Hard to tell from pic. Water level is about halfway up weir

Maybe so, can’t tell from pics.
Pretty sure that template is supposed to go on inside. Was at petco the other day and they had a dollar a gallon tank sale going on

Their dollar per gallon sale cuts off at 50$ I believe
