Hey reefers
I run a refugium with chaeto and other macro. How long does the vibrant stay active in the water column. Another way of asking, is how long do I need to keep my refugium offline?
I searched the vibrant thread, but it’s too long and conflicting.

I used vibrant for 2-3 months but switched back to GFO for GHA. I would not disconnect your refugium as it offers alot of stability to your system. Maybe put the chaeto in a temporary tank while you dose vibrant. My chaeto was cut back to a few small strands.

It’s been 7 days since the fluconazole dose and the GHA is turning gray white. I put my refugium online and all seems fine. I kept the refugium going by keeping it lit and a powerhead. I have other types of macro algae type “plants” besides chaeto, such as sea lettuce. I’m not certain if other types of refugium material would survive fluconazole or Vibrant.

I used Vibrant and kept my refugium with Sea Lettuce online. More details about your specific situation will help to provide the ideal recommendation.

If you dose anything more than the standard dose of 1ml / 10 gallons every 2 weeks, it is suggested by the Vibrant manufacturer to take the refugium offline.

I will say that in my experience, I was able to keep my refugium online with a little more than the double dose (weekly instead of every 2 weeks). I did notice that a lot of the sea lettuce in my refugium began to break up (I suspected it was a result of my vibrant being dosed weekly). After I used Vibrant to successfully removed my problem, I did spend some time cleaning up the broken pieces. Not saying that you should follow my path, just saying that it worked for me. Vibrant worked wonders, but I took it slow and steady.

Very interesting. If I follow, all chaeto should be removed but sea lettuce can remain during treatment. I also have red ogo and Pom Pom. This is a Fuge pack from algeabarn.
My Fuge is. Hob CPR. It holds around 5-7 gallons of water and is fed by a closed loop pump. I did this as I had no room for a sump. The Fuge works well, but the GHA got ahead as I was developing the Fuge. My tank is a 75 so the Fuge is just under 10% water column column.
So in the race against time, the GHA outgrew the Fuge and I chose to use fluconazole. Hence the fact I took it offline.

If I do choose to use vibrant at your mentioned dose, any thoughts as to the other macro algae I have? Info is hard to track down.

Vibrant gets rid of algae and of course it doesn’t discriminate, macro ALGAE is guess what?
There’s your answer...

I think each macro may vary, but at 1ml / 10 gallons every two weeks, you should be ok. If you go slow, I think you will be ok. By slow I mean increased dosing to every week and observe.

The safest bet is to take it offline.

Another tip, manually clean as much as you can. That includes cleaning detritus out of your sump!

Vibrant is going to attack the green hair algae before it will go after a macro algae.
