I'll post a picture of the back later tonight so the return is more visible. And it would be awesome if Fluval made a reef compatible tank like this. Does anyone know how I can license this idea?

Here are pics of the return line only. It starts from the pump on the right and splits as it comes to the middle of tank. The pipe going left recirculates water back into the sump and the other line goes to the DT.

Thanks Daniel! I found a small leak yesterday at one of the unions. It's kinda weird, no matter how tight I make it, it still leaks. I'm going to be replacing that today or tomorrow.

I'd like to see the returns coming through the wall of the overflow back into the tank to preserve the clean lines, but I know that wouldn't be very easy to do.

@1Lost_FishHello everyone! I'm actually new to this forum so I thought that I might as well introduce myself here with my WIP fluval edge.
I really love the appearance of the tank but to me, this tank would have been a pain to deal with when it comes to filtration (hang on back isn't going to cut it), flow, lights, and topping off. I have seen many people mod their lights on the edge and one of the best in my opinion is to just remove the hood and add on some DIY LEDs. Jeffvmd on Manhattan reefs has an amazing looking edge even though he removed his hood, and this is also where I got my inspiration. I would link a picture but I'm not sure what the rules are on that so I'll just leave it at that.
I'm a firm believe that filtration is really important in any reef aquarium so I completely redesigned my edge so that I could have a sump. Enjoy the pictures!
I messed up on cutting the first slot so that one and the last one are longer than the rest just to be uniform
Next was making the overflow box and stand. I tried to make it look as original as possible.
This is what it looks like after I glued the pieces together and painted them.
I found your build thread while searching for Fluval mod's and Wow! Very nice work! I've had my 12G Fluval Edge Nano reef set up for several years and have upgraded the light (AI Prime) and filtration with a siphon style mini sump (housed inside the exterior box) called a Marine Pac which was designed by Saltwater Conversions based in Australia. As this system has been functional over the years, it does have its drawbacks. I've always loved the look of these tanks and would love to modify it to include an overflow and sump as you did. If you wouldn't mind I have some questions for you...
In the first picture it looks like you used some type of jig/template to precisely cut the weir (slots) into the rim with a router? Would you mind telling me what you used?
What material did you use for the overflow box and what thickness?
How did you assemble the overflow box?
Do you have any pictures of your plumbing inside the overflow box? Bean Animal?
What type of paint did you use for the project?
How did you attach/bond overflow box to the tank?
If you have any additional pictures, I'd love to see them.
