I got this guy 6 or 7 months ago… when he was in the LFS, he did not have the black bar from his face to his spot. When I put him in my tank, it kind of came and went (with stress I believe) for about a week. But then it just stayed, it never goes away. He’s definitely not stressed and he eats like a pig. I’d say he was healthy. I’m not worried about him, just curious if this is normal.

If he's otherwise looking/acting/feeding "normal" in regard to what you have observed over the time you've had him, I think this is probably just the coloration-pattern he has settled into.

Does seem unusual. If ok in every other way maybe just a mutation. Mine has never developed anything like that.

That looks like a stress reaction to me. If it has been in the tank 6 months then someone is bothering it/making it uncomfortable.

To me that looks like a pattern it’s settled into.
I have seen several one spots have more of a black bar than just the spot, similar to that seen on Siganus magnificus.
