Can you keep a one spot foxface in a 65 gallon cuz I’d love one they are so pretty but people have different options on the tank size they need.

IMO yes you can. Whats the foot print of your tank ?

Yes you can & I yes I do (in a 65gal tank)

I had one in a 4-foot 75 gallon and in MHO the tank was too small. I got it as a baby and it rapidly got up to 6 inches within a year. As it got bigger, it became more stressed and skittish and eventually I had to get rid of it.

I would say not long term, I have one in my 90 gallon and I would say that's pushing it as it gets bigger.

Mine is going to new home 180g in a month but is thriving in current 65g

Once again though, the 65 is still not a long term solution for it. Kind of like me having a really small juvie Melanurus in a 36 gallon bowfront for 4-5 months and then putting it in my upgraded 90 gallon tank, doesn't mean that I would recommend a Melanurus Wrasse for a 36 gallon bowfront long term. I always go from the standpoint of someone asking whether or not a given fish can live it's life out in a given tank and the "I'll just rehome/remove it if it gets too big" has never been a good idea IMHO. If they specify they are upgrading in the not to distant future, that is one thing, if not I assume they are asking if it can live out it's life in a tank of a given size.

You can keep it in a 20 gallon if you really want. The question is, should you? ;)

Listen, tank sizes are not a hard and fast rule. 65 gallon is on the lower edge of the general consensus of an acceptable tank size for one. No one can ask the fish what it thinks, so you'll find probably as many people saying yes as saying no.

Personally, I feel that a 65 is a bit on the small side long term. While it's small you're fine, but I would be open to the idea of rehoming it as it grows. But a lot of this depends on your personal feelings towards the ethics of keeping fish and aquarium sizes. I mean we all often willingly buy fish that were ripped out of the ocean with cyanide, flown around the world, and sold to us to keep in a little glass box, so you can probably justify anything you want with those types of ethical questions looming. LOL.

Liveaquaria says minimum 70 gal. 65 is close enough
I would say that too because I would like one too, but then again, Liveaquaria says tomini tangs can live in a 70g peacefully but you wouldnt be able to keep one longterm in a 65g. Right? *just asking cuz i want a tomini tang and im upgrading to a 65g and once again id like a tang XD*

A lot of people keep tangs in as small as 4FT 75G's.

I don't see why a 4Ft 65G would be a problem for a Foxface.

I've got a juvi in a 45Gallon now. He's just fine, he's about 2 1/2 inches. Once he gets to 6 I hope I have the 65 up and running.

IMO long term 5ft 100+ gallons. From my survey consensus has it that they reach 6-8” on average though 8” would be on the big side it seems. I’d treat their space requirements the same as for Zebrasoma Tangs though I’ve heard that they are a bit less active and swim at a more leisurely pace. Not a pelagic / open ocean swimmer but still need 100+ gallons and 5ft+ I think.

5 Ft is a lot of space.

Not sure if you've ever had a fox face but they're little scardy cats, at least mine is.

They actually like to be left alone for the most part.

During feeding they will generally try to be first in pecking order since they have spines. But it's kind of like cheating IMO lol. they'll puff out their spines and run to the food and kind of make everyone else wait until they get their first few pecks.

Otherwise during the day they like to find 5-6 normal "grazing spots" and they just swim around the tank frequenting those spots. They're not quite the same swimmers as tangs.

Tangs like to swim around a LOT, fox faces not so much.

I guess ideally you can provide them with enough space as possible I'd say 8-10Ft Long would be ideal.

But I think the guys main question was what's the minimum (or can he keep it in his 65) and I'd say long term 4 ft as a minimum.

As I mentioned above (2 years ago) my Foxface resides in a 180 and is very happy. In my 65 I have a bi-colored rabbitfish which doesn't get quite as big but keeps algae in check.
