I really want a fox face/rabbitfish for my red sea reefer 350. my lfs has sold out on one spot fox face, should I buy a

Siganus Vulpinus instead?

I'm not sure that is something anyone on an internet forum can answer for you. There is no reason to say yes or no based on anything except what you want. If you really want a unimaculatus, wait, if you like both, get a vulpinus.

what is the difference?

but everyone recommends the spotted one and no one recommends the non spotted+

There is no difference. If you want a fish with a spot, wait. If that doesn’t bother then go for the Lo.

I just got a one spot yesterday and already see him doing his job on the algae.

"Everyone" does not recommend one spots. In fact I can't recall ever seeing a reason for one over the other except personal preference. They are effectively the same fish besides one species having a spot.

The vulpinus is a slightly larger species I believe they max out at 10 inch whereas unimaculatus maxes out at 8-9 inches.
I personally recommend Magnificus if you don’t like the yellow.

S. vulpinus may get a bit larger but I don't think that the huge difference in recommended tank size is warranted. It maybe a difference of a few cm at most.

so for a 90 gallon tank it would actually be better to wait for the unimaculatus?
Either that or Siganus magnificus will be a good choice.

btw guys, do you recommend any schooling type fish?. I am currently making a big list of fish to get since everything turned to the ground when I got ich, so I only have a 2cm long clown and angry yellow goby

I’m not aware of any schooling fish but chromis are a good shoaling fish that bring that uncommon blue/green color to your tank. Anthias are also a popular shoaling fish.

Unless you have a very large aquarium, fish will not truly shoal. They may while juveniles, but then as adults turn into monsters, killing each other off gradually. May take a couple years, but it will happen. Pairs are better for most fish.
