My Foxface will not chill. He spends all day going up and down the side of the tank wall going on 3 weeks now. He eats just fine and looks healthy. If I come to the front of the tank (as long as it’s not to fast) he comes to beg for food. He has a sleeping spot, and no one is picking on him. If I put nori in the tank he will take an occasional break from spazzing to go grab a bite then back to the wall. The only thing that calms him down is when the lights go off. Any ideas or does he just need more time? I figured he would be settled by 3 weeks.

Mines used to do the same thing, and calmed down with time. I catch him doing it every so often nowadays as well but for brief periods of time

It’s just his reflection he sees and thinks it’s another fish. He will eventually stop (hopefully)

Foxfaces are spastic by nature. My One Spot gets spooked by the strangest things (even it's own shadow/reflection), mine has nearly gotten me in the face several times with saltwater splashes as it darts up to the surface for food and does a quick about face at the surface. I guess the question I have is the Foxface generally it's more Yellow color or is it more of a jet black color. Jet black means it's very stressed.

Mine would turn very dark with light patches and plaster itself to the rock work anytime I entered the room. It did this for the entire 6 weeks of quarantine. After about 4 weeks in DT he calmed down. Now when I add nori to a clip he is taking bites before I finish sticking the clip to the glass.

Yeah, it would be very easy for me to train mine to eat seaweed out of my hand. I don't do it though, one spaz spike up while he is around my hand and we could both have a very bad day.

What sized tank? My tusk did this for a couple of months non-stop... I have a 120g. I finally decided my tank was just too small, and found him a home with over 200 gallons. As far as I know he was fine there...

It stressed me out just to watch him though [emoji23]

I had one in my 125 for about a year. He was always a spastic. He did settle down some but anytime I did a water change or clean the glass he flips out. Hopefully your will settle down.

My leopard wrasse makes loops around a frag rack along the wall of the tank everyday for some amount of time. Sometimes he'll be at it for hours, sometimes moments. He also cruises the whole tank exploring and eating whatever he finds too. But once in awhile he just likes playing with his reflection, or just making loops around the frag rack I guess.

One of the things I have found that is very useful is to do my water changes at night after the fish go to bed. Greatly reduces stress on them. My foxface and coral beauty actually share a cave and never seem to be bothered by the water change.

That is a stroke of pure genius. I'm definitely going to use that myself. While my fox face doesn't mind me, the gravel siphon is a completely different story.
