So, I've seen the light, and it's name is a Tunze 6100 with a single controller, not to mention I picked it up for under $150(!!!).
The 6100 claims to have a max flow rate of 3000 GPH, and my tank is a standard AGA 65 RR. Tuning the pump down to its lower setting (maybe in the 2000 GPH range, plus a Mag 9.5 return tuned to 80%) it's kicking booty for flow with no dead spots. I yanked 2 MJ1200 mods and one un modded on a wavemaker and it looks like I could do just the Tunze for recirculation.
You think this is possible?

you can turn the pump down to 30 % and pulse it from 30 to 40 percent to give a little random flow

i have 2 6000 and a 6100 in my 58 and eheim 1260 return (modded)

might have a little sand blowing around depending on the placement

for 150.00 if you dont like send it my way i will add it to my 58 for more flow

fyi, the pump may be labelled 6100, but what makes it a 6100 is the larger transformer

Ok, this sounds encouraging. For $130, I was practically jumping.

Never had a Tunze before...but, by the transformer, do you mean the circular-disk-like-thing-a-ma-bob?
