Hello everyone! Currently Im in China, and will be living here for one year to save up some money then continue traveling. One of the first things I did after moving here was set up a fresh water planted tank. It seems these aquarium things have a “once you pop you just can’t stop” effect and I’ve become fascinated with setting up a nano reef.
So I’m wondering is a year enough time to learn, set up and enjoy a reef?

Well really the question is what are you going to do with the tank after 1 year and you have to move? As long as you have a responsible and sustainable plan for that eventuality a year should be plenty.

Aquariums and moving a lot do not mix well.

Aquariums and saving money also don't mix well!

If it were me, enjoy the travel first and you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the reef once you set down roots

Sweet thanks for the feed the back. Yea In the process of setting up my fresh water tank I made friends with the lfs guy and he seemed pretty confident in being able to help find a responsible home for that tank when the time comes. That being said the freshy is a lot less responsibility it seems so probably easier to find a home for. Thank you good things to consider

I personally wouldn’t do it.. depending on how you set the tank up it can take a year or more for it to stabilize and mature. It would be a shame to tear the tank down just as it’s coming into it’s prime.

Yea that’s my worry, thanks retro

I say yes. Plenty of time to set-up and enjoy but the learning part not so much. The hobby is ever evolving and while I'm certain you can get the basics there will always be something to learn in this hobby.
