Hi,

My 25 gallon setup has been running about 10 months now. I use Ro/Di measure Zero TDS.
One pair of percs, mandarin, cleaner shrimp, various snails. I set up the CPR aquafuge2 about one month ago.

I have been using instant ocean standard mix. I keep having to scrape off diatom off the glass.
It is also on the sand too.

I use phosguard, purigen, carbon, matrix and polyfil. I was just starting to get Tisbe pods on the glass.
I don’t want to scrape the diatom and kill off the pods. Will the diatom on glass go away eventually?
Even when I scrape it off, it’s pretty tough to take off in some areas.

I have 2 turbo snails, they do eat off the glass but it’s random so it plenty of diatom on the glass.

Does dosing with phytoplankton increase or decrease diatoms?

I’ve had read through old posts, that it’s silicates, phosguard should take care of that?

I would scrape it off before it cakes itself on there. It should kill the pods at all using a mag float. For the tuff areas you could use a razor blade. The phosguard and purigen should help with silicates along with water changes.

polyfilter and phosguard keep them silicates at bay. They don't harm anything just looks ugly

I did water change, swapped out purigen, phosguard and carbob. rinsed the matrix.
I reduce lights to 6hrs/day.

Ok, I started with cheato, it just disintegrated, could have contributed to the problem. Only sea lettuce is thriving,
should I try cheato again? I’m using the CPR fuge light that came with the fuge. It’s not on 24/7, best I can do is 10hrs,
other family member is sleeping in same room.
