I am looking for some help I have a 55 gallon fish and Live rock tank, I run carbon and a protein skimmer and I have actually about 57 lb of live rock in my tank. I have 3 happy fish, the worlds hardiest puffer ( seriously this dude took to a move, my original tank getting a crack and being rushed into a brand new tank) and two blue damsels, I also have about 20-30 hermit crabs, a chocolate chip star, a varying amount of snails, my star fish eats them. My issue I keep trying to add a new fish but three have died of ich....... none of my current fish break out in the disease and I try treating it with Kick-Ich and rally, I keep the lights off, I pull my filters and turn off my skimmer. I mean I'm thrilled I have three happy fish and I don't have any problems adding hermit crabs.... please help.

Sounds like your current fish have developed immunity, but are still carriers, of some disease. The new fish you add do not have this immunity and thus succumb. The first step is to read this article: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/how-to-quarantine.189815/

If QT is something you are willing to do, I recommend treating all your fish in there and going fallow (fishless) in the DT for 76 days to starve any lingering diseases out of there. (Fish diseases need a fish host to feed upon or they starve to death.)

If QT is not something you can do, below are less than desirable options to consider:

If I'm not mistaken, I just read somewhere that puffers are known to be particularly "good carriers" of ich.

Yes, they have a very thin slime coat to protect them. I get to save many puffers because they are always the first to show symptoms of ich & velvet down at my local Petco. :D I've only lost one so far, as they respond very well to CP.

CP = copper? Thought the thin skin/slime made them sensitive to that too? Or am I thinking of something else...

I'd love to have a system big enough to keep a puffer....they are the saltwater personality-equivalent to the freshwater Oscar. Great fish to rescue. :)

As far as I know angels are the problematic ones with copper. Could be wrong. I hae heard puffers are hit or miss. But humble is good evidence of it working

That's interesting, he is awkwardly the hardiest fish in the tank. I had my levels checked today, everything was fine except my nitrates were a little high, but expected that because a fish just died and I have not had any filter medias in my tank for over a week.

Mine is one of those little puffers, he is clown but he will try to bite you if you get your hand in the water.

I have also got fish immune, I have been experimenting ways to figt it, however removing the fish to qt really is your only guarentee! Not to mention immune fish can still be killed by these thing in time, or under stress

I really wish I could my Other tank cracked during my move.... :(

Check out petco's $1 per gallon sale. I dont know if it's still going on, but they do it a couple times a year it seems. Easiest way to stock up on a couple 10 gallons or whatever you need for QT. I gotta hit them up to replace a broken 10 gallon TTM tank.

If you would stop seeing how loud of a splash you can make your fish do when transferimg them you wouldnt break em :p

LOL. I actually broke it with my butt. It was on a table outside and I backed into it knocking it off the table - smash!- there she went.
