I assume I must have pods in my tank as every now and again, I see a dead one floating around. Even at night, I don’t really see them alive. Is that odd?

Tonight’s victim was an amphipod.

Often times they’ll just hide down in the rocks or sand and just come out for food. But I’ve usually been able to spot at least a few

You probably are seeing their shedded exoskeleton floating around. They look eerily like the live version.
For the copepods, that’s possible. The amphipod was pretty beefy when I fished him out

Buy a red flashlight and shine it around the sand/rocks after lights out. You'll see amphipods. Copepods are usually too small to see, unless they are on the glass.

Was just going to post this exact same thing (we really need a "thumbs up" emoji). I see them all the time floating around my tank.
