Hello everyone! So I purchased a mated pair of onyx clowns a few months back. The female was considerably larger than the male and they were inseparable. Even the first few months they never really left each other and there was no agression other than a few twitches from the male once in a blue moon..
I recently added a royal gramma to the mix and so far there hasn’t been aggression towards her but about a week after I noticed my female clown being more aggressive towards the male. She wasn’t nipping at him but she’d get this macho fish attitude and scare him into submission, and it got to the point where she wouldn’t even let him swim with her, it was constant. It’s been about 3 weeks since and she’s started hosting a spot at the top and he’s now swimming in a spot around some fake seaweed in the bottom corner. They both seem happy but are a lot more distant with each other. Although a couple times a day they swim together and her aggression has gone down.
I should mention she sleeps in the same spot and he sleeps at the opposite side at the top but she seems to think the entire top of the tank is hers and will bully him every now and then but he’s started to jolt and flop back which actually scares her back to her spot. Lol they never used to do this and it’s so odd. She’s also twitched from him multiple times but it seems like she’s just so angry with his presence and he was just enammored by her up until recently. Clown experts, let me know if you’ve had similar experiences or can give me some insight. Thanks!!
