saying good nite to the frags in my prop (i know i know, im at the doors of the nuthouse) i was shocked to see wat looked like a swarm of nudi's (only zoas/palys in prop) loads of these little beasties crawling around all of a sudden. im very careful regarding wat gets into my prop and everything starts in a QT with dips and very close inspection but of course stuff can still get by.

anyway i wasnt totally convinced on the nudi scenario after seeing this close up so i thought id run this first picture by you to see how you would think.

Looks like a nudi, but i am not sold on it being bad. All nudis aren't you know. :D

No flat worm I have ever seen has the eye antennas, I think they could be a larval stage of a snail much like a Stomatella. Paper shell as well kinda look like that and so does nudis of the non-zoa/paly eating sort. I had red planaria bad and a sixline wiped them out as well, but they didn't look like that....

There are different kinds of flatworms though. Ranging in different sizes. I had them in the old 33g before i got that sixline of mine. They were food after that. I actually saw one morning at least a faltworm of a half an inch swim off the wall cause the light turned on, only to meet his death with the beginning of the waking sixline's slime trail. :D

I guess I'd better back peddle a little after looking at the picture again.
The green flatworms I had in my tank didn't have the eye antennas.
The ones I had were a transparent green and had red dots in them like the above picture.

well these things dont seem interested in my zoas/palys which i grow on cockle shells.
tho the odd one can be found on top of cockle shells, instead they are seen on other materials in the prop like plastic pipe and egg crate at nite.
durring the day they hide/sleep and ive found them under the cockle shells and here is where the eggs were growing.

we still have no winners on the id yet but i suspect this is because tho you all have these in your tanks, its very rare for you to see them as your livestock make a quick meal of them (as my damsels are doin in prop)

so any more thoughts of id before i show picture of eggs?

ok heres the eggs and you probably all familiar with them lol, maybe look on your powerheads for them, they are tube worm babies, (i have various tube worms in prop), the long skinny tube worm in middle area is a dfferent variety that stays in the tube (looks like a spagetti that one) but all others have hatched and left their curly tubes.

I would also say Slug - Snail (hope not a nudi).
(Not Stomatalla - I have them in my tank, as small babies... they still have little antennas and look much different).

It is not a Zoanthid eating Nudi as seen from Solomon Islands.. they have ruffles on back - also look different small. It is not Monti Nudi - they are very skinny and white. (Yes, I have had all three) - but been tank free for 6 months now. (Did not always dip before - local LFS had them).

Dip, Dip, Dip - Hydrogen Peroxide 1-10 ratio is the best on softs to see if anybody's home on the rocks... works quick and the zoas recover quickly.

my giess is nudi too. Doesnt have the protrusions that the zoa eating ones seem to have. That doesnt mean its not though

there nudis i had a bought with them awhile back but sixlines luv um but id get rid of as soon as possible with dips of tmpcc if sixlines not avaible or stronge iodine dip or freshwater dips.

lol this ones catching you out some, go have a look closely at your powerheads or pipes in your reefs you may see similar worm casings, you can find them anywher i guess in your reef but easyier to see calcium tubes on plastic surfaces.

these are Family Serpulidae: Calcareous Tubeworms. and i guess the babies are first stage before morphing, tho the damsels have demolished most of them now lol.

heres a link to info on them, scroll to bottom of page
