hello I have a small blue hippo I'm ready to intro into a 180 gl fish only.
However I was shocked to learn the alk holding the tang was 5.1 ! The tank it's going into isn't much better 6.7 . Is this too much of a difference? themp & salinity are a match.
Thanks. I know I'm being impatient but ,,,,,

Alk doesnt really effect fish the way it does coral. Temp and salinity are the main ones you need to keep an eye on. Just make sure to drip acclimate and you should be good :)

I don't think the alk is of as much concern to fish, corals a much different story. You may want to acclimate for an hour just to be safe, and put your mind more at ease. Just as reference, I've bumped up alk by 1 daily pretty quickly and never had any ill effects to fish or corals, and I'm sure many times alk swings have been much greater and never effected fish, again corals a much different story.

hey Salty ! , I just now put him in a gallon pitcher 1/3 full & started a 2or 3 drop a sec . I was thinking 45 mins maybe is it foes too slow I'll pickup the drops.. I would like to get close to double the water . maybe that's too much maybe overthinking ? LOL Any op would be nice Thanks for stopping by!

I acclimate fish rather quickly tbh. 15-20 minutes of temperature acclimating. Take a sample of their water match salinity of the water to my qt. And then slowly let air get into the bag over 10 minutes (open a little close immediately, then drop them in. Keeps them from any osmotic shock from ph change happening to quickly from gas exchange. Motile inverts handle acclimation the worst they are the only ones i usually give a long drip too. Ime anyway.

Those tangs are pretty darn tough, it should do just fine either way! They are cool fish, even before Nemo! Lol

Yeah it's not so much the number, but the swing, so fact you are on lower side is fine, but I'd probably adjust display up some slowly

@daveocean, Agreed ! I'm not sure why but this tank is drinking the alk solution 5 fish & 2 softies is it . However that's another subject .
So Lil Blue is out swimming with the big boys. Doing ok in the strong current in there . He did make the mistake of getting too close to The clowns rock pile . Mrs Barnum set him straight on that . Anyway he's out & eating ! Now I pray he's disease free .
