Looking for an open brain frag. I think I'm ready to give it a shot. Anyone near Appleton/GB have a frag?
Ken

Closed, yes. Open, no. I don't know anyone that frags their open brains - might be tough to find this one as a frag. Small specimen from the LFS readily available upon request if you can't find one. I have three and I couldn't fathom cutting them for fear of losing the whole works! Good luck though...

A couple small ones, yes (favia). They don't exactly grow fast though and they're not particularly exciting, but I could trade you one or sell one cheap if you want to try one. Closed brains aren't hard to keep and if you can't find one, ask at the LFS and they can aquire one easily, just be sure to ask what lighting it's been kept under. Mine have gotten better coloration from more intense lighting, but all my closed brains, unlike the open ones, get fairly high flow. This keeps sediment from settling and keeps them happy.

Might want to try Briguy - I bought a really nice war coral (favites) - deep red with green mouths - from him and he may have a frag of that you could buy. They aren't demanding. I feed mine regularly and it's been good to me.

This guy here: Auctioned Editions The War Coral

This is about as good as closed brains get - very nice :) Now this one grows quite a bit faster for me. I feed it mysis a couple times a week and I started with about ten eyes and after six months or so I have double that.

Thanks John. I will get in touch with Briguy to see if he has any frags of that left. That is an AWESOME looking coral.

I've got a pretty nice metallic open brain that rescued from a LFS a few years ago. It was in pretty bad shape and there wasn't much tissue left, but it's grown back into a couple small polyps now. I'd need to pull it out and see if I can split it, but it's quite likely I can if you're interested.

I'll dig up or take some pics, but it's basically one of these, and about 3" open: Brain Coral, Wellsophyllia

if he is not interested i would be. let me know a price. cant get it until next weekend though.

Here's a picture when I first got it, February of 2007. Poor little thing...

And it's a crappy pic, but you get the idea. Much better now!

I'll see if I can get to it tomorrow and separate the two polyps. It's on the bottom of the tank (65g tall), hence it's a little browner than originally. Under higher lighting it should pick up a brighter green like in the first pics.

check with midwestsaltwater.com

I bought some super nice ones and the price was less than half of what some other places charge
