So I've had one for a year and one for 6 years.
Never have any issues with them.
Suddenly around Thanksgiving both brains closed up and have been like that ever since. The smaller one's mouth is open continuously now.
When this started, I also lost some of my black spine urchins, and my bird of paradise colony half stn'd over a few weeks.
Now that all seems to have subsided but my brains still look bad.
I've done a large water change (no changes observed) and I've checked for stray current (meter reads zero).
And I've also checked both Vortech wet sides and my magnetic algae clip for signs of cracking/rusting and don't see anything.
About to send off a Triton ICP test tomorrow but curious what you think would cause this?
All my sps (outside of the bird of paradise) look great, as well as my other LPS. Color all looks real good. PE is all good. Plates are fluffy and tentacles extended. Fish all seem happy. And all parameters are on key, even nitrate and phosphate.
I'm stumped! o_O

No chemistry swings at all? Any possibilities you had a temp swing? Any way contaminates could have gotten in the tank?

The only swings I've had have been small alk swings as I've been messing with my calcium reactor. Nothing that would have caused what I'm seeing.
Anything is possible as far as contaminants, but nothing that I "know" of. And this is one reason I did the large water change. I also run carbon and have changed that out a couple times.
I'm sending the triton test off tomorrow to see if it pics up on anything. But that will take 10 days or so to get the results.
I find it odd that my typically more sensitive corals are doing just fine.

That's strange for sure. A few times a week our trachy will deflate and expell waste but since you lost some urchins and some seriatopora I'm curious. Are you on auto dosers for anything else besides the calcium reactor? I hope everything pulls through, I love your tank.
