Open brain receding

Does any one know why my open brain may be receding? It's been in my tank for over 6 months. Just noticed tonight. I feed it mysis and brine shrimp

Parameters? Placement? What do you have in the tank fish and invert wise? Any corals nearby? (within 4" or so)

Water testing tomorrow night. I have been busy at work but the last test about a month ago was
Nitrate 4-5ppm
Phos 1.2
Alk 7.5-8
Cal 420
Mag 1300
It is in the bottom if the tank and another open brain but different type close and a Kenya tree. Inverts are hermits, sand sifting star, 2 blood shrimp, 2 cleaner shrimp. Fish are clowns, 2 wrasse, 2 tangs, 2 fire fish, 2 blennys and a mandarin dragonette.

Could it be the one mouth isn't getting enough food? The other is fine

Happy to help! My opinion, given that your parameters stay stable, is that its either getting stung by an adjacent coral (the other brain could do it if its a different species) or something is picking on it. There are quite a few stories about tangs munching on open brain corals, and I've also witnessed blennies do the same. I would say keep an eye on it throughout the day, and check at night (for sweeper tentacles from other corals).

I can't imagine it being a food related issue as it is a photosynthetic coral.

I haven't seen anything picking on it but I will keep an eye out and double check my parameters tomorrow
