Does it look like an injury , or possible infection?
Looking for suggestions/recommendations.
pls

This does happen and as long as water quality is good, saltwater fish have the ability to heal and heal quaickly. To reduce the change of bacteria, Melafix works well and will help the healing process

The location is very bad, right above the body cavity. If it deepens, the body cavity will be breached.
If this is an injury, any idea as to what could have caused it? A wrasse with a wound that has no known cause may well have an infection known as Uronema.
Is the fish feeding normally?

No idea what would’ve caused it, just received Tuesday and is in qt with two other peaceful fish.. Seems to respond to food as a typical new arrival,
What’s concerning is I noticed the wound Wednesday night , it looked little and I wasn’t really that concerned.
but 23 hrs later it looks a lot worse.

It could be Uronema, but really not possible to treat it if it is, given the size of the lesion, the location, and how fast it spread. What’s happens is this protozoan begins growing in the fish’s body, and erupts on the surface, but by then, the damage is done. Luckily, it typically only affects certain fish, and may not spread.
