So I was think about getting a possum wrasse, probably the yellow banded one at the store. I have a 24g cube with 2 clowns and a bicolor blenny and just want to know if they’re a hassle or not. Also just wondering if they eat coral pests. But it sounds like it depends on the fish because I hear picky not picky, hides a lot or doesn’t. Thanks for the input

With less aggressive fish in the tank these guys will be all over the place, they don’t always eat coral “pests” but there are a few that will. As for picky, make sure it eats BEFORE you buy it and it won’t be picky. I had a tanakas Pygmy and he was a blast in my tank but he later got eaten alive by an urchin…

Yeah I was thinking about the yellow band or tanaka. But sorry about the urchin though.

Mine is in my 25 wish a RG, chalk bass and 3 gobies. It is out all the time and constantly cruises the rocks and caves picking. I’m very strict about coral dipping so I can’t say if it eats pests. If def hunts all day. While it’s visible a lot, it does spend the majority of its time in the shadows.

Love my possum. In my 20g with 2 clowns and a firefish. Constantly cruising and pecking. Also eats brine, mysis and lrs reef frenzy. Very cool swimmer.

Mine will usually stick to the rock work, but often seen. Once in a while he’ll cruise the tank. Always picking, never aggressive, and always left alone by 12 other various fish in a 115 gal mixed reef. Love this fish!

Good to know, my go to is reef frenzy

Do possum wrasses eat starfish? (fromia)
Nope, they leave starfish alone along with every other invert these guys specify on pods and prepared foods in captivity (Amphipods and copepods, mysis/brine/pellets specifically).

i had a yellow banded possums wrasse. was not captive bred and only ate copepods. he inevitably died due to his supply ending. make sure he eats before you get him to make sure you can cater to his needs

My yellow banded is super active and cruises the tank picking at rocks all day long. Currently mine is in a 72 gallon and loves eating frozen mysis. Cool fish, I would recommend, super chill wrasse.
