My tank has been running for 5wks with 1.025 salt level. I just called LFS to see if they had any clownfish in stock. They do and I am ready to get me some fishies!! So i asked him about QT he said they don't QT and get there fish from some captive bread vendor in TN....I plan on QT myself regardless. I also asked about the salt level in their tanks, he said 1.021 and that mine is on the high side and algae will like me (lol) and there will also be lower oxygen in my tank. He said they run their invert tanks at that level but not the fish. I do plan on inverts when the tank is ready for them. What is your best opinion on where I should have my salt? Do any of you run it in the middle at say 1.023 so that fish and inverts are both happy? Should I just leave it and let my fish get use to it (after acclimation of course) My tank has good water flow. I have to 2 wave pumps plus the return. IDK how much to trust what they say...it was Petware House..sooo :thinking-face: I also don't want to stress these fish out more than necessary, which is why i asked about the salt level

Well sounds like your clowns are coming from SA (Sustainable Aquatics) I have a pair from them as well!

My tank runs at 1.026 but I've got corals.

What is your planned stocking for the tank? Fish/inverts only? Or corals as well?

1.025 is the typical salinity most of us run ours at.
I usually sit around 1.024.
I’d stick with what you have and just make sure to acclimate well.
I run my fish-only tanks at 1.021 and those with shrimp / snails etc. at 1.023. :)
Thanks!! This makes me feel better...lol

my plan is all...fish inverts and corals. I don't plan on corals until closer to 1yr mark. Inverts as soon as my tank needs them. I'm very excited for a CUC!!

A few things:

1. Lower salinity does have slightly more oxygen, but it’s a negligible amount. Lowering temps have a much greater impact on oxygen. And if you have surface agitation it really won’t matter what level you keep it at (as long as it’s within range).

2. Keep your tank around 1.025-1.026 for the corals and fish together. You may keep lower salinity for the fish QT, but there isn’t much benefit besides for saving a little on salt.
