I currently have 2 MP40s, 1 on each side of a 60x24x24 mixed tank. Each is across from each other in middle and about 1/3 way down from top. I have some dead spots in the back and areas in the middle under rock ledges. Thinking I need to add some more flow as diatoms seems to build up in these areas. Thinking of trying either 1 and maybe eventually 2 more mp40s to increase overall flow. Or add an MP60 to one side and move both mp40s to the other side. I dont like the idea of them being on the back wall as in the past that seemed to cause sand storms in the front of the tank.

I have even thought about other pumps but vortechs just seems to give the best overall wide flow that doesnt kill things within the first 12 inches of it.

Opinions please?

Thanks!

I have an 96 x 24 x 24. The Jebaos worked but died quickly. The XF350 gyres worked but needed cleaning frequently. They got put in my 75 where it doesn't matter if the flow decreases between cleanings.

I ended up with 4 Vortechs placed pretty much as you have described. Two of mine are MP60s but I have to push water farther than you do. I wish I had just bought them to start with.

I did try the 3 pump thing with 1 MP60 facing 2 MP40s but ended up with 4 and I am happy now.
