What do you all think about the maxspect gyre 130? Does it really take care of the dead spots and keep movement in all parts of the tank? I'm thinking about getting for for my 75gal and would like some other views before I spend the money. Thanks in advance!

I also have a 75 gallon and am going to purchase the 150 next month and dial it down a bit

Buy it if you like it's look and shape. Don't buy it purely because it creates a gyre in the tank. You can do that with literally any static flow source, including your return pump. All you need is a source of flow at the top on one end of the tank, pointed perpendicularly across to the other side. There you go. Let it rip and it'll create a gyre. Water will make a circular trip around the tank. I do it with my Tunze pumps. The key is to not have something else fighting it. If you have another pump going at the same time in a different spot it'll break up the circular motion. That will even happen with the maxspect pump. For the money you could get a much more robust and reliable product without so many complaints. But...It does have that physical form factor alot of people like

If you're into reading customer reviews I would encourage you to do that. The gyres have been around long enough for there to be some quasi long term reviews out there.

Any particular reason you are doing the 150 over the 130?
I would like the flexibility to transfer it to a larger tank if need be. Plus my thinking is I won't be working it as hard and I am hoping it will last longer, just my opinion though

I loved my gyre pumps!
But don't get one larger and plan to run it slower. In my old 75 I ran the 150 at level 2 or 3. It gums up and stops after a week or two.

I have since switched to vortech's, pretty awesome pump. But I think the gyre's beat it for flow. Until they (or jebao) makes them programmable to the degree of the vortech's, and fixes the design to allow for RELIABLE low-set speed, I'll wait.

Wow, that is really good to know, I was originally going to go with the 130 as I was talked into it but it will be quite some time till I can upgrade to a larger setup, I will stick with the 130 then

Thanks for the info! My buddy was trying to talk me into the 150 the other day I'm glad I didn't really listen to him

I'm currently running the 150 in my 4ft 110 mixed reef. I run it at about 60% at 4sec on 4sec "off" (not really off as it only goes down in speed to 1 on pulse mode). Good flow throughout the tank. No dead spots. Have been running for about 4-5 months with no complications. Tried the back and forth with replaced rotors and sleeves, but wasn't prime for my application as I have some lower flow corals that would get battered in reverse flow. All in all a great pump for what I need. Tons of flow and decent controllability. Only thing is I wish there were a way to anti sync 2. Once that becomes available I'll probably snag another just to add a little more turbulence.
