Ok I'm just frustrated beyond belief! Now I'm battling some kind of aggressive algae bloom. My rock is becoming covered!
It brushes off easily, is siphoned off easily but within a couple of days it's back. Even my power heads are covered!
Temp has been kind of high of late, 84° being max. Not much I can do about that. Tried bottled froze water in sump and it was pretty useless. Fans are only thing keeping it where it is.
Upped water changes to 5g weekly about 12%. Feeding sparingly. Wet skimming. Changing sock every 3-4 days.

Only thing I can figure is that it's related to my lighting. Radion XR30 Gen3.
All corals thriving. 3 lil fishes. 2yr old 40B/20L sump.

Please anyone with suggestions? Any that requires no money being spent especially [emoji51]

I don't know that the temperature has much to do with it. A picture might help understand what is happening and generate some suggestions.
Would also help to know what your phosphate and nitrate levels are.

PO4 and NO3 are both undetectable via Salifert, which I'd expect.

Are there any "strings" coming off of it and/or any air bubbles trapped in it? Sorry, it's hard to tell from the picture.

Hey nana. Is it an algae or a cyano? Does it blow off? I've seen this in a few tanks recently and in mine as well and I'm suspecting it's playing a bit of havoc in mine.
I do think heat has a bit to do with it as I'm seeing similar on this and other boards even thoug the thermometers says 80.
As far as light I haven't seen other complaints yet about the Radions.
If it has a controller you may be able to back off of the red yellow and orange or the white Chanel and see if it helps.

With the exception of a little green. Your tank looks pretty great.

No strings, no bubbles. I've used a soft bristled toothbrush which removes it quit easily. Mexican Trubo's aren't touching it. No it won't come off using turkey baster.
I'm beginning to think you're right that it's heat related. Don't recall having this before at lower temps. My tank usually hovers at 76°-78° so to reach 84° was big. It's actually down to 80° now.

Yea your must be a hair algae. Mine is def a cyano.
It's weird. I've been wondering if the tiny layer of mulm on the rock decomposes faster with the extra warmth and makes a tasty "soil" for the algae.
Esp interesting because I'm seeing similar in several threads and forums.

As far as the soloution, all I've been able to do is a little extra in tank cleaning, lower or decrease lighting intensity and or duration, and I'm adding a low dose of dr tims waste away.

How old is your tank? Mine had it bad a few months after I came out of the initial cycle. I figured it was new tank syndrome. Honestly, I don't have it anymore since the tank has matured and I kept doing manual removal and water changes with vacuuming the sand bed. Cheato seemed to help as well.

Definitely not hair algae. Possibly a Cyano I'm not familiar with. Thankfully the temp has now dropped to 79° My max intensity is only at 54% as it is. Lowering it might risk losing my T. Maxima.
