I'm going to be installing a chiller in the next week or so and I can't decide where I want to put it. I know that most people li ke to have it plumbed directly into the tank but that's not an option. I have a basement sump and that's where I'll be putting it. Question is where in line should it go?

I drew up a very crude sketch on my phone how I have the room and plumbing laid out. I'd like to have it fed from the first t off of the return pump before the manifold that was initially going to be the feed for the frag tank... basically just put it inline with this feed.

Does anyone think this will be effective or should it be returned to the sump?

I run mine off a circuit in the sump (in the basement). Just take min flow requirements seriously. If the flow is too low the chiller will short cycle.

I'm going to dial it in right in the middle of the recommended min and max flow with a flow meter.. by short cycle do you mean it will cool the slow water too much and cause a cold area where it is returned to?

I run a 3/4HP Tradewinds chiller that has the temperature probe inside the unit. If the flow is too slow, the internal temperature drops too quickly and the unit cycles on and off too frequently; which is bad for the chiller. If your chiller temp probe is external to the chiller, then too slow flow runs the risk of icing up the unit ..... also bad.
