I think I might get a coral beauty angel for the purple I want in my tank. The problem, though, is the potential coral chewing. Now, I've heard it two ways - they're prone to nipping corals and some aggression, and that they are much less likely to do either in a tank over 75-80g. My tank will be a 125...so what do you think? What have been your personal experiences with this (I'm especially looking for opinions from people who have kept them in 75 or over.)

Always a crap shoot. You never know what you will get. If you decide to get one, make sure you have a plan to catch him and get him out.

Highly advise against it. I had one since I started my 75 gallon and it terrorized anything new that I added. To catch it it was more of a pain in the ***, I had to remove my rocks just to get to her. Sold her on Craigslist for $20 and now everyone is much more happier in the tank.

I was going to add it last. Think it would still terrorize the others?

I wouldn't if I were you, even if it doesn't bully the others, you can still run the risk of the nibbling at the corals but that's just me.

I've had one in my 240 for 5+ years. Before that it was in my 180 for 2 years.
Been just fine around soft corals.

Hmmm... so far that's 2 against and one for....guess I'll be waiting for more input. :)
The lower I can keep my own stress the better, though, so maybe I'll pass. If I did, what do you guys think would be a suitable purple fish to go in this:

125g

WITH

4-5 Pictilis Anthias
2 Mandarin Dragonets
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
Various Corals
Various Inverts (CuC, plus maybe one or two I just like)

All of these are set - they're my very favorites (aside from dropping the Flame Fairy Wrasse I wanted over concerns of it getting into fights with the similarly-colored anthias). Do you suppose there's a nice reef-safe purple wrasse out there I could get? :)

I am buying these all captive-bred if at all possible. The mandarins and clowns absolutely for sure.

If you think this is overstocking, please warn me.

I will not be getting all these at once, obviously. The plan is to start with the clowns (no 'nem) and a portion of the cleanup crew plus a 'pod culture. Then I'll get the Mandarins and train them to frozens in my QT before adding them to the display (plus a second and/or third pod culture to be sure of their safety and fatness!). Next, the rest of my CuC, then the anthias - getting four or five femmes and letting a male appear. My coral collection will be scattered throughout as I run into specimens I really really like and add the capacity for (such as I'm not getting SPS until I have dosing equipment, etc. :)

I am fully ware of how difficult these fish can be to keep and even though I've only had personal experience with FW so far I am ready for a new challenge. I'm disabled so I'll have a ton of time to work with them and give them what they need (including a lot of patience and research, research, research!) :D Believe me, there'll be plenty of time between the clowns and the other fish due to my budget also; it will force me not to progress too quickly.

We've had one for a year in our 75g after our Potter's Angel passed. Haven't had any problems with it with any Corals. Supplement feed it with Nori, get's along fine with other tank mates. I'd put my stamp of approval and rate it a Recommend..

I have one for 5 years and also a potters angel in a mixed reef..no problems

I actually have one in my 30 gal. tank for about a year now and it has been just fine, shows no agression towards the other fish and has not bothered one coral. Though I was told at the fish store you never know what your goin to get, but they supposedly say out of all the angelfish, the coral beauty has the least chance of being a pest (not 100% though).

So it might be worth a try, then...Hmm...keep those opinions coming, please, folks! :)

I have had a coral beauty with a mixed reef with no issues . They have great swimming patterns
