Yeah compared to the rest API are not very good however years ago thats one of the few choices there was. They will keep you in the ball park. 5 gallon water changes a week as long as you dont get a crazy fish load should keep you in good shape for a while until your corals take off

Yup- every Friday on my day off I’ll knock out the 5gal change. Next step is making my own water. I’ve had this rodi filter in the box in my closet for 1 month. Still have been shelling out for water at my LFS. I just can’t stay away from the coralllllllll

Def can, this was taken more towards the sunset part of the cycle- where the ‘hyper violet’ leds are most kicked in.

Generally what is a good % ratio of blue/white for optimum coral growth?

I run more blue than white, very little red or green. I have most of my tanks running the coral lab AB+ spectrums to be honest and have started supplementing the leds with t5s starting last friday

With my LEDs I don’t think I have the option of controlling red/green. What type of lights do you have?

100% blue maybe 65% white at peak hours i'm assuming you are ramping

I am ramping, and acclimating the coral to the light as per the manufacturers recommendation (as these lights can be too intense for certain corals If blasted too quickly). I’m at approx 60% max capacity for blue spectrum, and 40% max capacity for whites.

i definitely need to upgrade test kits. Been using API master reef. I’ll look into the hanna and Red Sea tomorrow. I appreciate the encouragement and I’ll send updated pics in the future!

My suggestion is to get good test kits, i use red sea and hanna checkers and then get yourself a good doser if you dont have one already. Take your big 3 at on a certain day and time. Then start your dosing. Test it at same time each day it takes a little bit to get it dialed in and then it will need to be upped once the corals start taking off. After i got mine pretty close i just started testing once a week now.
I started with kalk myself but my tank is large and i was having an issue supplying enough through ato once the corals started growing.
But that would be my advise. You appear to have some really nice sticks in there. Keep us updated!

What’s a good doser to start with?

I love red Sea, salifert, and aquaforest. But right now I work 6 days a week...so I plan to get some Hanna checkers. And use those for a fast test during the week, and run my traditional tests on my offday

the oppisite the blue is the deeper penatrating light corals on bottom will love and won't grow algae

Believe it or not... I've heard good stuff about the JB4 dosers from Jebao... Apparently they are decent for beginners. I plan to get one myself. It's good if you are on a budget.

I’m gonna do some research tomorrow, may consider that one soon if it looks good and the price is right
