I have been thinking about selling my aquarium of 4 years. At first I was thinking just sell all livestock then wait a year and if there is now itch to get back in sell the equipment, then maybe just sell the reef part of the aquarium but I don't know what I should do. I have just been ignoring it for about 6 months now and I feel bad about it. So I need some feedback opinions or what have you.
Thanks
Lisa

I hate to see you go out Lisa but if your not taking care of your tank then maybe it's better. You can always start again at a later time.

Once a hobby becomes more like a job it is usually time to at least take a break. However with saltwater, starting over can be quite a process, so it may need some special consideration.

It's interesting to see the tank slowly become 'alive' and cycling and such, so maybe you would enjoy starting over down the road.

We work at our jobs. There's no point in having a second job at home waiting for you.

If you are not taking care of it then get rid of it, why risk killing things that other will enjoy?

if you don't have a passion for the hobby anymore it is either

a) time to find a new focus for it that will give enjoyment again. change up the focus of the tank. get some new species. something to give the interest again

or

b) get out. you'll just be waiting money and eventually killing everything off. tanks that turn into a job and are neglected don't do well over the long haul. might as well sell off the stuff while you can get some value.

+1 ^

Reef equipment doesn't age gracefully and will only be worth less. On the other hand, there's a ton of expense involved in restarting. Really think on it before deciding...

if you choose to get out i would dump everything including equipment. you will take a beating on the price but it certainly won't gain value if you keep it

another option would be to downsize and just keep your favorite stuff in a pod or something similar
