Hey guys, I'm putting my build together right now and I wanted some opinions on my choice of Led lighting. I was thinking about the Maxspect razor 160 watt 16k 27" unit (2 of them) for my 150 gallon tank (72"x18"x27"). Anyone have any experience with this particular unit, what are the differences between the pro unit and standard, is it enough lighting to support whichever type of coral I will eventually introduce. I am mounting inside a canopy so the size of the unit plays a role along with the cost, maxspect is a bit easier on the wallets than say the radions. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

I have two maxspect 120w razors over my 90 gal. The lights have been awesome for me, totally controllable and dimmable, very easy to use. Also a very well built and sleek fixture.

Maxspect has a four foot fixture (300 watts) now. I have a 90 gallon and am seriously thinking of getting the Maxspect lighting. Wanting to upgrade from bridgelux bulbs

I have the razor 16k 120w and I love it. I have an SPS dominant tank and it works very well. The fixture is very bright, great color and shimmer and looks VERY slick!

the first pic is my green milli under 6 T5HO's and the second is the green milli under the razor. You can see an very obvious difference in color and polyp extension. I was trying to decide between the razor, Ecotech gen2. Glad I got my razor!

I'm doing a custom. Not at home right now so I can't give you the numbers but I know my fixture never goes over 90% and I run mostly white with about 3/4 blues.

I have got maxspect razor since the day it came out. The light is good for SPS but somewhat difficult to keep LPS since the 90 degree Len is too forces/intense for it. You also have some disco ball effect as each led are placed far apart and do not mix well under 90 degree Len.

I recently upgraded to new 120 degree Len and the new spread is very impressive. I will have to see if the light penetrate deep enough under this new Len or not.

Love my razors!

I have two 120w 10k. They were originally over my 65 long and now they're over my 120gal. I find that hanging the lights will give you enough spread on the 90 degree lens. In my 65gal I used the feet but with the bigger tank I had to switch to hanging, and it solved the issue.

I run mine 80% white and 100% blue(remember its a 10k not a 16k) at its peak for a duration of 8 hours.

Be careful assimilating all your corals to high intensity. These things are powerful! Any time I get new additions I always back my lights off to 50% and slowly ramp them back up over a few weeks.

I learnt the hard way. When I switch over to these from a 175w MH + 4 T5's. I burnt a few corals even at 60%.

How long have you had it? How are your corals growth and color?

I've had mine for about a year now. Originally I was only growing LPS and softies. But after I saw the potential in them. I started adding SPS in the past 3 months. The growth rate is much better than with my MH set up. Some of my first SPS frags added have at least doubled in size. I personally think the color is good in all my corals. Things just seem to glow under these lights.

I honestly only have one complaint. That's I wish there were more than 6 different time stages. But 6 works. So its a very minor complaint.

I don't get better growth or color than MH but I'm trying, LED just scientifically can't compete with MH.

Can you please share me your secret? Perhaps your set up and dosing regime.

Thanks

Love mine I am mostly LPS, Zoas, and Palys. I am new to reeding so I haven't jumped in to the LPS yet. The light is super easy to use, looks great, and most important corals seem happy.

Thanks for the info guys. @ Eric, yeah I figure if I hang them at around 7"-9" off the water line I should be ok with the 90 degree lense

I found that I have gotten better results with the maxspects than I ever had with my MH set up. I ran the MH set up for over 8 yrs and when I switched noticed a difference within months.

I don't really have a "secret". I keep up on my maintenance and dose daily, Mag and CA.

I keep my tank at 9.5 DKH 450 CA and 1450 Mag. Run my lights for 12 hours with an hour and a half ramp up and ramp down. So a total of 9 hours peak.

I'll use carbon and phosphate sponge once every two weeks.

I also use Aquavitro Fuel
aquavitro . fuel

and I feed my fish heavily. 3 times with auto feeder and 2-3 times with frozen and usually soak my frozen food with Brightwells AminOmega Brightwell Aquatics - AminOmega

I also feed my corals reefroids Reef-roids and phytochrom Brightwell Aquatics - PhytoChrom

You will be very pleased with them, I am. The 300 watt 4 foot fixture is basically two of the 160 watts that I have together.

Power consumption? I know the manual in my case says 120watts, but if I run it at 20% (Fowler), does it mean I use 20% of 120watts? Hope there somebody smarter than me out there - thanks in advance!!! Rasmus
