Hi my name is Rick and im very new to marine aquarium. I've spent the past month setting up my first one. So far I have 2 clownfish and a mangrove plant. I was wondering about this led light I had in my closet. I got it from Amazon and its for growing plants. I figured I could use it for this but am not sure. Any opinions. I'll post pictures and thanks so much for this community im glad to be apart of it

I would say 'no'. those are for growing algae - not for fish. you will probably need a brighter light over the mangrove. If you are doing a fish only tank - I would get something for the fish (i.e. an appropriate light) - and another for the mangrove (a window?) - if for coral maybe a more complicated light. Congrats on entering this hobby!!!

Hi, thank you for replying. I plugged in my led roof and I'll use the other light for the mangrove. What do you think of this setup overall?

welcome!

If you would like to keep coral, then i suggest you upgrade the lighting to something made for marine aquariums. If you're planning on keeping fish only, you can use any light that fits your liking. You could save that light until you upgrade your tank to light a refugium if you want to use one.

I’d say that light may grow the mangrove. It will grow the crap out of algae. Nice looking set up. Our off to a good start.
