I have 60g mix reef with a pair of tomato clowns a chromis , 6 line and small blue damsal that hasnt shown any aggression yet. I was wondering if a neon dottyback would be a bad idea. I have heard mix reviews on these guys.

Sounds like an aggressive tank in the making! I wouldn’t keep tomato clowns or 6 line wrasses in any of my tanks at any time... not sure about neon dottyback, is it captive bred?

Yes it is

Neon dotty's can be aggressive enough to stand up for themselves but they are also able to dish it out on fish that are similar to it, ie hang around the rock work and are long and slender. I would say your sixline is the problem as it would be the most likely aggressor and the most likely to get picked on should it currently be peaceful (they generally mature into beautiful but nasty little wrasse and that coming from someone who loves them).

I bred neons years ago and they were really rough on each other and had the potential to be nasty. I had others that were really docile as well but I'd generally suggest them for a tank with tank mates that can handle themselves. If you moved on the sixline it might be a nice addition but could give the odd chase to the damsel.

Never ever would I add a neon dottyback unless the fish are way more aggressive and larger.. That is the most aggressive fish I had ever owned. They can hide in any little hole and get through them so any fish it decides to go after cant hide from it. When they decide they want to kill something they are ruthless and relentless.
