Opinions on new equipment for new setup?

No reef tank at the time. Sad story on the tangs, left for vacation + storm outage + controller strips not tripping back on (first time ever in this situation) = death on the reef... I had a reef sitter too, it just happened the evening of the day we left, and he wasn't scheduled to come by for another 2 days... I'm still traumatized by the experience.

Ahh...nothing like a good story to hype you back up to get back into the hobby...LOL:sad:

I just recently bought a mp10 for a 40 breeder.

Imo it doesn't have enought flow for sps tankwide, if you say put them only in certain spots then yes. Maybe it will be differnt in a 36 bowfront. I have a couple deadspots But imo for 235$ it should have 0 deadspots, and you shouldn't have to buy another elcheapo powerhead.

Still have 3 days to decide to keep or not to keep. I love the fact that you only have 2" <- "im just guessing didn't measure or anything"of powerhead in the tank thought that is the main reason I might keep it.

For the cost you should be 100% loving that powerhead if not i say return in. Tunze powerheads with same flow actually arnt that much bigger and can be hidden in the rocks they make imo after using mp10, mp40 and tunze 6105. I will never buy a vortech again. Obviously there pros and cons to both options but.ime with them i get better flow out of 1 tunze 6105 than when i had 2 mp40. Not to mention tunze are dead silent and the vortechs was highly annoying to me and especially my wife while watching tv altho u do get used to it and can some what ignore it.

I never had flow problems with the MP40's. The noise could be a little obnoxious sometimes, but my sump was usually louder. I hope the one vortech does the trick.
