Mine is like 1, but I think 2 is going to better for LPS on the sand. I like 2 because it's non symmetrical, I think most people over do the symmetry. If I didn't have such a tall tank I'd aim for 2.

Either will serve you well. /1 might give you more placement for SPS. 2/ more for LPS. However remember that once corals become established the whole look of the tank well be changed. Areas will be filled in caves and overhangs possibly less seen. IMO as long as you have an open type structure with plenty of holes, caves and overhangs then you will be onto a winner. Aesthetics although very much an individual thing will change as your reef grows. Many people forget this and 12 months down the line their tank can look quite different from when they first set it up esp the reefscape which of course is what we expect or should do with a thriving reef. Just my 2 pence worth an thoughts.
