I have posted about losing the 210gal.I have had a thought and would like to hear everyones opinion on this.Remember I have not done this yet as it is only a thought.
I have a 72Lx18Dx14H tank.I have thought about setting it up as my personal tank.I could either go with 3x250w MH with 2x54w T-s or 72" fixture with 3x150w MH with 4x96 watt PCs.I also wonder if it would look funny with the hood from the 210gal on it?I know that with this much light in a shallow tank that I would only have basically all SPS coral with some limited LPS.Anyway food for thought.
Thanks,Jason

With the tank being that shallow and narrow, if you went with the 250w mh's, you'd definitely need to stick mainly with corals that demand a lot of light (IMHO). With the 150's you'd probably be able to keep many more LPS, etc. I think it really depends on what you want to keep.
FWIW,
Mariner

I would stick with the 250w so you don't limit yourself and just get creative with the rock work and have some overhangs to shield the less light demanding coral. It also depends on how high you mount the lights. If you mount them off the tank 10+ inches you could keep lps on the sand no problem.

Well today I went and got a 180gal.Same basic dimensions I had with the other tank.So I will be setting it up soon.I still have the option to use 2x400MH or stick with the 3x250's I already have mounted in the hood. Some times there are to many options.LOL

u said a 180g but the dimensions you gave are alot smaller. my 150g is 72x18x27... im running 3 250mh, 4 96 pc and everything is happy. stick wih the 250s

Glad you found a 6 ft tank. Is that the one in Kentucky I told you about?

Yes it is thanks.(hwntundra) I was considering using one of my frag tanks before I went and got the 180gal.

I've had a hard time finding the right spot for a lot of things in my frag tank (72x30x14h). T5's are too much for most things (mounted ~18-20" above the tank). I have egg crate, but if you ran a sand bed, you'd lose a couple of inches of depth. Then the inch or so with the overflow weir drain, and you'r down to a max depth of 11-12". With creative rockwork, you could probably make it work, but I think you'd have some trials and tribs before you get there;). I want a 120x36x25... The frag tank would be great if only another 5-7 inches taller.
