I thought I would be sneaky and feed my fish before dinner and not have to wash my hands. Kinda childish.... I have some small pellets in a jar that i alternate between brine shrimp. So I took the top off and was going to tap a very tiny little bit, then, I accidently bump about a 1/10 of the jar, coating the bottom of the tank. Before I could get my net to catch it it was too late. What sucks is that I put live rock cramed in the 20 trying to keep it alive and there is really no way to vacuum up all of it without trying to remove alll the pieces. I got what I could out and left the rest. Algae bloom.

My tank I am sure is not loving me.

To avoid such a situation, I don't bring the food container near the tank. I just pinch out what I am going to feed, or pour it in my palm, then feed it that way.

+1

I use an old NyQuil medicine cup when i mix different pellets and flake

or pour some into the lid at least.. I dump straight from the container into my fw tank, but who cares, that's fw

Make sure you use the lid with small holes. Lids come with various size holes. I also like flip tops like some McCormick jars.

SA Hatchery Diet comes in a flip top like McCormick looking container and is a great supplemental diet. They cary it at The Aquarium Shop as well....just FYI.

Yeah, that flip top comes with two sides - one side with holes and the other side wide open. I've thrown from the wide side absent-mindedly many times, having to scoop out all the mess on the water surface...

i use a mixture of dry foods so i mix them in a 7day pill holder and just dump one in per day. works great.

The pill container is a great idea. I will definitely be doing that the next time we go on a trip and I have someone else feed the fish for me.
