Optical sensor covered by Kalk

For those using Kalk in their ATO, how do you keep it from creating a film on a low level optical sensor? Mine won’t notify me that the ATO is low because it’s covered with Kalk.

Mount it sideways, separate from the pump. Will function fine but kalk won't accumulate on it.
