Optics on RB Photon v2

Has anyone removed the optics from their Photon V2? If so, how did you like it? I’m trying to get a better spread.

People in both fw and sw have done it..
In sw it's usually better to raise the light for added spread.

Technically both have the same effect..and you will lose "PAR" (more spread) w/ increased height..

For those that removed them, sometimes it's just removing some.. like the inner diodes..

I've been considering getting a Photon V2+ but I am concerned with the disco-ball effect.

Does anyone have direct experience with the disco-effect on these lights before and after removing the optics?
Are there any "reflector" style optics available similar to those used by the Reefi lights? These use a reflector rather than a lens.
Is the disco ball better, worse, or similar to a generic black box mounted at the same height?

Just raise them up higher if you can. I run mine 13” off the water line and the spread is great.
