Wrasses are a pretty good bet. Fairy Wrasses and Flasher Wrasses are about as reef safe as they get and the Halichoeres varieties (ie Christmas, Melanurus, Red Lined) are pretty reef safe all though they will munch on smaller inverts. Some Anthias varieties will work as well (although they could be more aggressive).

Among other fish to try:

Clownfish (stick with Occ or Percula varieties)
Cardinalfish
Orchid Dottyback
Gobies
Blennies
Dartfish (ie Firefish)

A cover is highly recommended as many fish can jump.

Fairy and flasher wrasses are bright and active.
Blennies are personable.
Watchman goby/pistol shrimp are interesting symbionts.
Flame or longnose hawks are characters.
Jawfish are comical.
Clownfish and grammas are ubiquitous reef inhabitants.
