Of all my SPS I have two i'm having trouble getting to have the color others post online.

1) ORA Marshall Island Blue Bottle - This thing came in the sickest blue and is now no matter where I put it is just a very faint blue almost tan.

2) ORA red planet - The green/yellow base has gone away. The thing is growing like a weed, has great PE but is a light pink color all over.

Any suggestions?

Brandon

Hey Brandon,

I'm sure it has to do with your lighting etc. We have been able to keep the color on both of those corals under T-5 lighting (14x 39w mixture of Giesemann aquablue+,actinic+ and pure actinic+).

Actually, the ORA MI Blue Bottle faded initially but came back with even bluer tips.

We do run zeo though and have great color with most of our acros.

Hope that helps.

Yea I also run zeo and all my other corals are colored up very well. I think this is just a placement issue and i'm trying to figure out where others have them placed. If you had PAR readings that would also be great.

I'm running 2 x 250 watt radiums, lumenarc, ice cap ballasts. have 20k VHO Actinic supplements.

My thoughts were the MIBB needs more light and the RP needs alot less... but was curious if that what others have expereienced.

Sounds like a lot of people loss that green base on the Red Planet. I have seen a few people have success in keeping it in pretty intense lighting. Not sure there is any rhyme or reason, but I too have lost that once attractive base. Maybe one day....

cut a frag of the red planet and put it around 200par and it will have alot of green in it.......needs lower light to have more green

I kept mine in lower light and it started to get that green base back...but if there's one thing I've learned, its that everyone is different.

My red planet has maintain the green body under high light over 400w radiums

Can help with MIBB I still need to get that one, but the Red Planet has kept the green base for me where it is shaded by my tort. Where the body grows out into the open, the green is gone. This experience leads me to say the Red Planet would prefer to be in a lower light area to keep the green!

Within the top 8" dead center under my Radium 250W.....Crazy color and poly extension. Green and Neon Pink with some shades of blue popping.

Takes a while for the colors to lock in...About three to four weeks and they look like they should.

Anyone have a Purple Plasma...Mine has been slow growing for the last 3-4 months now.

I have the plasma. Growning like crazy now but the colors are way off. Mine did best in intense lighting.

I've got the plasma. It was slow for the first few months, but is finally starting to pick up. My red planet is directly under a 250 halide and has some green to the base, but has lightened up considerably since I got it.

I cannot keep any green to the base of the red planet, I thought that was the draw of ORA corals that they hold their colors and were hardy. I have talked to a lot of people that have the red planet and almost noone is keeping the bright colors that you buy them with.

From what I know the ORA Marshall Island Blue Bottle needs massive amounts of light.......

i have both those corals and both look normal to me, the blue bottle brush is all blue with different shades of blue. my red planet is mix red and green. running a DIY 2x175w xm 15k PFO parallel reflectors, advance ballasts and 2 x 54 , aquamedic aqua blue and UV super actinic with individual refectors

What Kelvin are your bulbs? I have heard that the people that run them 14k and higher get the best color with the red planet. just my 2 cents
