How long have you had this colony? I've never seen a true Oregon tort this big. Typically its a VERY slow grower, or at least the Oregon tort in the Pacific Northwest (oregon) is a VERY slow grower. Typically cobalt blue as well with zero hint of purple to it.

No offense meant but IMO that's not the Oregon Tort

Here is horrible picture of a few of mine, the color balance is way off -, they are darker than this pic-you can see a totally different growth pattern/structure (front right is not Oregon Tort)

Not an ORA Oregon tort

WHEW!! Glad I'm not the only one to think this... I recently paid $90 for the first one inch frag I've seen in a Seattle LFS in about eight years. After a decade of eyeing the elusive Oregon tort I guess you could call me a purist. I'm curious if the ORA tort is from some of the original Oregon genetic stock.
I'll see if I can get a decent pic of my "nub" tomorrow worth posting here.

Guess I'm not the only one willing to put out a few bucks for the original. Back at a frag swap in June I put out $125 for about 1" from a local guy because I knew it was an ad "original". I'll grab a pic tonight

Mine is not ORA, it was originally from SDguy and I know he had a lineage thread on either here or RC about it. Definitely one of the bluest sps I have ever seen.

How old is your colony? Is it a SLOW grower?

FWIW, Mine was listed at $109. I fortunately got 20% off. I would have gladly paid the full price for it because it is literally the first one I've seen in eight years. The True brightest blue ever slow growing lineage.

The original piece I got from Ora with a few other corals about 5+ years ago. At first it was a slow grower but as it's gotten bigger it seems to grow faster. I get about 1"+ growth each month on all the tips. Usually just cut tips back every few months and sell them locally. I have recently sold the bigger colony to a guy and gave him a killer deal. I just wanted more space in the tank for newer corals.

FTS before selling the colony of slimmer and tort.

This is the second piece. The original one I got from him took awhile to start growing but I have found that once it is aclimate to your system and you have consistent parameters it grows fairly fast as far as sps wise. It grew enough that I was able to hook a friend up with a frag. My original stn'd on me so this is the one that I hooked my friend up with after he broke down.

Interesting. IME no one has ever considered the oregon tort as a fast grower as far as SPS is concerned, but the slowest and hardest to keep alive, an inch in three months is the most I've ever heard of. MY LFS gets about one or two frags a year off their small colony.

FWIW, I'm not calling you a liar. Just comparing notes and experiences. Keep up the good growth :)

Here is a picture of it back in January of 2013

This was in October of 2013

And this was taken November 2014 even after a couple of frags where taken off of it.

The key for me has been keeping alk and cal higher then were most like to keep it. I also like to let the alk bounce up and down over the week while maintaining cal at a stable level. This has cause issues for some sps to become slow growers. Like my Millis seems to never grow, but in my friends tank it grows like a weed. Now his tort from me doesn't grow that fast at all.
