I've had reef tanks for about 12 years now but have never seen this before... it's recently popped up on the rocks of my 7-month old seahorse tank. I know it's hard to tell from the photo what it is, but it's slimy, is spreading, and kind of sways in the flow so there are filaments / strings growing from it. Any ideas what this is? It's a new one to me, and all my searching just keeps coming up with diatoms. I know diatoms.... this is not that.

Well you might be right because I can't find anything else that fits the description. I've just never seen it like this before, but I'll start blowing it off and catching it in a sock.

is there any small bubbles on top of algae ?
No, no bubbles. Because of the color I almost thought something/someone had laid eggs, but when I look closely there are tiny filaments waving in the flow so not eggs. More like a gel that comes off easily with a turkey baster.

No bubbles means it's not Dino. Can you tell me what is your setup of sump? water from over flow to return.

Hi there.
I have a sock on my return hose and also a sock on the overflow from my skimmer. In the center section I have live rock and sand (but all the chaeto died) even with the grow light) and in the third chamber is the return pump. YESTERDAY I added two reactors: one with biospheres and one with carbon and a small amount of GFO. And tomorrow I am receiving a shipment of live macroalgae.
