Hello Everyone,

My orange hammer has been shriveled up for almost a full day now. My frogspawn and basic hammer are both doing fine. I just wanted to confirm if it was safe to assume my CUC bumped it the wrong way. My parameters have been ok, I have been working on bringing my nutrients down and they are going in the right direction. I dose microbacter7 and BRS Alk and Ca when needed. Attached are some pictures…
I know they aren’t the best but I work crazy hours and have two boys under two so I have yet to master coral picture taking and lighting adjustments for clarity.

Also I can post my recent test from this week from AquariLog if needed but I assumed anything major would effect all coral and not just my orange hammer.

P.S one other thing I thought of was I fed reef roids for the first time two days ago.

I appreciate any in

It could be the R Roids (digesting), but if that’s a shrimp in pic 2, keep a close eye on it.

I do have a cleaner shrimp and he does dig into the coral if they have anything meaty hanging out that he catches.

You may won’t to try dosing Reef Energy (over Reef Roids) and see if your shrimp lays off.

If your branching hammer opens back up, then you have found the cuase.

Either way keep an close eye on your cleaner shrimp, the last one I had ate some corals.

Thanks for your response, I also feed them mysis and I have definitely seen my cleaner pick the mysis out of my coral like this. I normally broadcast feed Coral Energy AB+ once or twice a week but I just tried reef roids because my LFS had it and I wanted to try something new.

They dont do well with Planktonic foods and roids raises phosphates
They also dont do well with bright light or high flow. Moderate on both and assure calcium is not below 380
Feed mysis shrimp

Thank you, you always seem to have a great response to my post. I just recently got my phosphates down after raising them thinking I had Dinos(only to find out they were chrysophytes) so I will lay off the reef roids for now… I guess it was a waste of money. Other than broadcast feeding reef energy I give my LPS Mysis normally. Thanks again

Don't know, every hammer is different. Mine extends more when I feed reef chili and won't accept even the smallest pieces of mysis. I would suspect it is irritated by something but also I have just seen that sometimes they are more open and sometimes less. It could be stressed by light but you would expect a more immediate reaction to that plus they exist in the wild under much more PAR than we provide in our tanks. If you can't observe any pests then I think the best thing to do is just observe.

If things worsen pull it out and do a dip in chemiclean or furan 2 daily for at least 4 days
