orange plate coral vs green plate

Rec'd a 3 inch orange plate coral from divers den 3 weeks ago. It is on the bottom of my tank close to a green plate that I got from them a couple months ago. The green plate is a beautiful, huge, swollen gem. While the orange seems to be just hanging on. I've moved it from a more shaded area to more light a couple times with very little change in appearance. The tentacles are barely extended at all. I've tried giving it polyp lab rr and shrimp pcs which didn't seem to have any effect. Are the requirements similar for both orange and green plates? thanks

They basically have the same requirements. I have both orange and green. I’d give the orange some time to adjust. I wouldn’t try to feed it if the tentacles aren’t out. After the tentacles come out, you can feed meaty foods. They have big mouths and readily take in large chunks.

My orange plates always take at least a month to get happy looking. I have seen a few reefers that have had instant happy ones, but mine are always slower than any other color.

They can be moody.. give it some time and make sure your parameters are in line.

thanks , think I should keep it in a little more shaded area until it start to come around or next to the green

Dont move them too much I notice when mine had been moved by my horse shoe crab. It was a little irritated I think they like to settle in and feel secure before they plump up and do there thing. Mine is in the middle with no rock work to shade it. The testicles at extend way out and the thing eats as fast as a fish.

I try to elevate off sand a little to keep sand off of it. Moderate water flow and lighting and move it never unless necessary.

I got one from WWC and it was immediately happy. After about a week it starting having no PE and look like it was struggling. I moved in deep into the shad, like getting 25 par shade, and after a week got big and fluffy again. When I got it from WWC it was underneath there frag rack getting super low par. I spray it with reefroids once every 10 days and is super happy now.
