I've had an Orange Regal in my observation / QT tank since Sunday 2/3 afternoon - less than 48 hours. All was fine through last night. This morning 2/5, he appears to have a physical injury on his right side. The spots in the photos are on the glass (sorry), not on the fish. The only unusual appearance on the fish seems to be a small gash on his right side.

About my observation / QT: 20 Gallons. No meds in the water. Just tested and no detectable ammonia or nitrites. Nitrates are less than 1 ppm (Red Sea test). There's an MP-10 providing gentle flow. Also a small power filter with filter foam inside - no carbon. Temp is 78F.

Also in this tank is a small (3 inch) Diamond Goby -- no problems. There are two small hermit crabs in the rocks. Could it have been one of them?

I'm open to any suggestions as to how to help my fish. Thank You
---Frank

Could he have rubbed on the rocks? Did he seem irritated before?

#reefsquad, any thoughts?

Kinda looks like Lymphocystis to me. Viral so helping its immune system overcome is the only treatment. Good diet and maintain water qaulity. Most fish bounce back without any further issues.

Agree it’s either bacterial and possibly uronema given some of the redness and the shape of the sore.

I would start the treatment ASAP, ruby rally bath followed by the trifecta (in case it’s uronema you want to have metro). Also may not hurt to try feeding metro bound to focus.

Thanks everyone. I'm off to the store to see what I can find.

I’m voting towards Uronema unfortunately because of the redness around the opening sore. I would start treating with Metro at double the recommended dose and feed with metro laced food. The only way to know for sure is a scraping and a microscope but if it’s Uronema time is not on your side.

Thanks everyone for your prompt replies and suggestions. Unfortunately, the fish has died.
Hopefully, I can try again with another Orange Regal at some point.

Sorry for your loss, be sure to tear down and completely bleach everything in your QT tank (rock will have to be bleached, rinsed, dried) because Uronema is a free living parasite and can live without a host.

Thanks for the reminder . . . I'll be sure to clean everything completely.

That’s too bad. Looked like a pretty bad case of uronema. Probably not much anyone could have done to save it.

I agree, seems to be once the sore is visible the survival rate is extremely low.
